  Join APT WGLC for a tour of the Basilica of St. Mary Restoration Project in Minneapolis, MN. It has been a long-term goal of the Basilica parish to restore the church interior after decades of water infiltration caused extensive damage to the building interior. Despite previous reroofing and masonry repointing efforts, damage to interior finishes has continued and in recent years, plaster deterioration has accelerated. The Basilica of Saint Mary is the first Catholic church in the United States to be raised to the rank of a minor basilica. The restoration work is planned to be completed in time to celebrate the centennial anniversary of that distinction in 2026. The work includes restoration of the interior ceiling plaster and paint; interior stone cleaning; nave flooring repairs; mechanical, electrical, and audio-visual upgrades; roofing replacements; exterior stone cleaning and repairs; masonry repointing; stained glass window restoration; a structural masonry study and repairs; and reconstruction of the exterior monumental stairs and foundations.

  The tour will commence at the west entrance of the Rectory at 88 N 17^th Street at 8:00 am.

  This tour includes climbing scaffolding stair towers on an active construction site. Please wear PPE including long pants, boots/leather shoes with ankle protection preferable (no high heels or open toed shoes), hard hats, and vests. The contractor will have a limited number of hard hats and vests available to borrow.

  Free street parking is available on a first come first serve basis along N 17^th Street. (you do not need a permit, as is indicated). Additional paid parking is available under the I-94 bridge or in the Minneapolis College ramp.

• Alice Millar Chapel Window Restoration Scaffold Tour

  APT WGLC invites members to join us for a jobsite tour of the Alice Millar Chapel North Window Restoration on Northwestern University's Evanston Campus. The window was severely damaged in a storm in August 2024. Following the storm, the stained glass and limestone mullions and tracery were carefully disassembled. The stained glass has been restored off site, and limestone mullion and tracery reinstallation is in progress. Strategic structural modifications have also been implemented. The reconstruction team includes Northwestern University, Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Berglund Construction, and Daprato Rigali Studios.

  APT WGLC will meet at 4:00pm on the sidewalk in front of Alice Millar Chapel at 1870 Sheridan Road on Northwestern University's Evanston Campus. 

  This tour includes climbing scaffolding stair towers on an active construction site. Please wear appropriate footwear (close-toed shoes), and bring a hardhat if you have one. A limited number of hard hats will be available for loan on site. If you do not have appropriate PPE, you may be required to stay at ground level. 

  Please note that registration is limited to 15 members.

  Street parking is available near the site, and there is a paid public garage in the block to the south. Please do not park in the Northwestern or adjacent building lots/spaces without proper authorization or you may be ticketed or towed.

  The Association of Preservation Technology, Western Great Lakes Chapter invites you to join us for our 2026 Symposium - Adaptive Reuse and Rehabilitation. 

  The event will be held at Pillsbury A-Mill in Minneapolis on Friday, September 18, 2026. 

  Registration begins at 8:15 am, opening remarks begin at 8:30 am. The program will include a tour of the adaptively reused historic mill, and will conclude at 4:00 pm.

  This program will provide 5 CEUs, pending AIA approval. Lunch and light breakfast will be provided during the program.
