In this new book, award-winning author Donald Friedman presents the development of the structure of skyscrapers at the end of the nineteenth century. He provides the historic context for the emergence of this new building type, as well as a thorough explanation of the technical aspects of construction. Preservation problems are discussed extensively. This definitive book is essential for anyone who is interested in early skyscrapers and especially for those professionals who work with them.
